The historic market town of Maldon, set on the picturesque Blackwater estuary, has witnessed the third biggest rise in house prices in the UK with properties soaring by 16.2 per cent in 2016, according to the Office of National Statistics (ONS).
Maldon was also recently voted one of the most desirable places to live in the country by the Halifax Quality of Life Survey, which takes into account factors such as happiness, wages, employment rates, housing, life expectancy, crime, weather, traffic, house prices and broadband.
Neil McAninch, Branch Manager, Beresfords Maldon, is not surprised by its popularity. He says: :Maldon is a historic market town and has so much to offer. There's a bustling High Street full of independent stores, charming prom with Thames barges and sailing boats, lots of space for families to live an active outdoors lifestyle, whilst also benefiting from good connections to the city of Chelmsford and mainline railway stations to London Liverpool Street at Witham and Hatfield Peverel."
He continued: "Although Maldon has seen a significant rise in house prices, it still offers something to suit most budgets."
Much of the housing stock is Victorian, with new builds on the outskirts and quirky quayside retreats.
