More time at home? It’s time to spring clean and declutter

24th March 2020

Now that we are all following government guidelines and staying at home, we've suddenly got new found time that we didn't have before. Whether you're working from home and have saved yourself two hours that you'd usually be commuting or whether you're simply self-isolating and have nothing on day to day, those extra hours mean it's the perfect time to spring clean, do some gardening and de-clutter.

But where to begin?

Seeing as we've had such bright sunshine over the past few days, we recommend starting in the garden. There's still a chill in the air but once you're in a sunny spot, you won't even notice.

Start by clearing out weeds, mowing the lawn and giving flower beds a general tidy. It's a great opportunity to encourage growth in your garden meaning those seeds that have been sat in your garden shed for a little while can be planted to bloom now the sun is here!

Making everything look presentable again is a great place to start after a long winter. Plus, escaping out into a garden you actually enjoy being in is essential when you can't go out and do the usual things you usually do. Your garden will be looking Chelsea Flower Show ready in no time!

A spring clean is great way to freshen up your home now that winter's behind us. Getting inspired with the likes of Marie Kondo's 'KonMari' tidying method is a brilliant place to start. Her website is full of useful tools and her renowned book 'The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up' is your key to de-cluttering mindfully and efficiently! The KonMari method encourages you to pick up items and if they don't 'spark joy' when you hold them then it's time to pass them on or dispose of them. Her philosophy is so interesting and once you learn more, it will change the way you shop and hoard items going forward.

Creating DIY cleaning products will not only make your home smell fresh and clean but they're better for most materials in your home as well as the planet.

Why not try this?

All purpose surface cleaner

- One part white vinegar

- One part water

- A few drops of your favourite essential oil

- Mix all ingredients together and pour into a spray bottle. This mixture is perfect for wiping over the kitchen counter and cupboards.

Top tip: Spray the solution onto your shower glass and tray, leave for 15 minutes then sprinkle some bicarbonate of soda onto a sponge and scrub the surface. This will remove any stubborn hard water marks and give the glass a real shine.
