Castle Hedingham is a former market town dominated by a magnificent 12th-century castle keep. Today the winding lanes of this medieval village are lined with timber-framed buildings and elegant Georgian houses.

The immaculately preserved Norman castle is a very exceptional find – particularly when it is on a site that is still understandable for its original defensive purpose. Hedingham Castle stands alone in the castles of East Anglia for being as it was when it was built, and as such is a very important historical landmark, not only for Essex but for Britain and also it is most highly rated within its genre in Northern Europe.

The castle is surrounded by some dramatic earthworks within the beautiful woodland walk it has both a lake and formal water, it also boast some fine and even rare ancient trees.
