Alex Beresford is the Managing Director for Residential Sales at Beresfords and was once Director of Office for the Beresfords Chelmsford branch.
We asked him a few questions about his role and if he could give us the inside scoop on the current Chelmsford property market.
As the Managing Director of Residential Sales, my role is multi-faceted, overseeing the day-to-day operations while also steering the strategic direction of the business. I’m responsible for managing our team, ensuring that we provide exceptional service to both our clients and customers.
On a more operational level, I ensure that our team is well-trained, motivated, and aligned with our company's values.
Ultimately, my goal is to drive the business towards continued success, whether that’s growing our market share, improving our services, or maintaining high levels of client satisfaction. It’s a blend of leadership, strategic planning, and hands-on involvement in all aspects of the business.
My Grandmother was a main driving factor in returning to Beresfords after leaving university. Being a family business I have grown up with many of the staff who are still at the business today.
You will always regret not being the last to give up.
Being busy, from dealing with clients to managing staff and strategizing how to deliver the best performance there is never a dull moment
Being motivated and organised really is the foundation of getting things done. But what takes it to the next level is that inner drive. When you’ve got that mix of focus and ambition, you’re already ahead of the game. It’s not just about working hard, but also staying consistent, setting goals, and constantly pushing yourself to grow. That kind of energy is what gets you far—and keeps you moving forward.
Chelmsford’s property market is vibrant, with steady demand due to its excellent schools, commuter links to London, and quality of life. Over the recent years Chelmsford has seen a large amount of regeneration to its commercial facilities with areas like Bond street as well as an influx of build programmes providing a range of properties from 1 bed apartments to large executive homes all of which makes living in Chelmsford and the local property market diverse.
Buyers are increasingly prioritising energy efficiency, with homes featuring modern insulation, solar panels, or energy-saving upgrades gaining more interest. There’s also a growing demand for properties with home offices or outdoor spaces, reflecting changes in work and lifestyle preferences post-pandemic.
With Chelmsford being such a well large and well-connected City many areas are popular. Locations like Old Moulsham will always be popular with commuters due to its closeness to the City Centre, other popular areas are located close to Chelmsford range of high calibre schools such as Springfield, Moulsham lodge and Great Baddow. Beaulieu Park continues to remain a popular location with high specification properties.
In regards to the selling process there is sometimes a misconception that getting an offer too quickly isn’t a good thing and that the property should have more viewings before making a decision, if a property has been marketed and priced correctly then a good agent like Beresfords will be able to utilise our extensive database of buyers and far reaching marketing strategies to find the right buyer for the right price. For both buyers and sellers the speed and complexities of the conveyancing and aftersales is sometimes misrepresented, whilst selling a property is a large part of the process, continuing a sale through to completion is a lot more complex with the legalities and the mediation being both parties.
Understand your budget: Get pre-approved for a mortgage to know your purchasing power.
Research the area: Visit neighbourhoods at different times of the day to get a true sense of the environment.
Be prepared to act quickly: Properties for sale in Chelmsford can move fast, so being ready to make an offer is crucial.
Work with a trusted agent: Having an expert on your side can make the process smoother and less stressful.
Quite simply, call Beresfords.
