Today the nearest to a battle Maldon sees is the world famous Maldon Mud Race, a quintessentially British event which attracts around 300 entrants and 20,000 visitors every year.
The town itself is full of character with its local shops, many tucked down little alleys, complemented by major national retailers but if you are fit to drop after your shop, you can relax in what seems a different world down on Hythe Quay amongst the traditional Thames sailing barges. Alternatively, you can stroll a little further along to Promenade Park, perfect for a family day out.
Unlike most Essex waterside towns, transport links are excellent. The A12 is about 7 miles away along the A414 and another 15 miles will see you at J28 of the M25 whilst Chelmsford is about 9 miles away.
The nearest train stations are Hatfield Peverel and Witham, both approximately six miles away, and have direct services into London Liverpool Street in less than 50 minutes.
Maldon has an excellent selection of Primary and Junior schools to choose from, further cementing its reputation as an excellent location for families. For contact details of local schools and services, as well as a selection of properties currently available via Beresfords, please see below.
