We were recently invited to sample the flavours of a new restaurant in Braintree, Las Iguanas. Here's our review and a special offer for all readers.
The gently spinning fans, light and airy ambience and sweetly spicy aroma of Las Iguanas only adds to the authenticity of this Latin American restaurant chain. Unlike most of its competitors, Las Iguanas has much more than the standard offer of burritos and fajitas to tempt the palate. The menu is rich in flavour and diversity, offering everything from tapas to Brazilian specialities. The only difficult experience of eating here was trying to decide what to pick!
Eventually we decided to forego all difficulties and order four tapas dishes, because, why not? Nachos, calamari, pato taquito and quesadilla. All were absolutely delicious and went down well with one of their signature cocktails, the strawberry daiquiri.
Another highlight of the Las Iguanas dining experience is their generous 2 for 1 happy hour. With such an incredible deal, how could any hour here be anything other than happy? The cocktails on offer are some of the best we've ever had. They also do a number of non-alcoholic beverages; I'd recommend the ginger and lemongrass mojo-less mocktail.
Our main dishes were fajitas, chilli con carne and the halloumi churrasco skewers. The chicken fajitas were cooked to order and served in their special mix of spices, onions and peppers. Dished up sizzling, with guacamole, soured cream, jalapenos, tomato salsa and soft tortillas. The chilli con carne dish featured rich chunky beef and black beans, with spring onion rice and jalapenos buttermilk cornbread. It was accompanied by smoky chipotle butter. Finally the halloumi churrasco skewers were flame-grilled with a honey-glazed dressing and featured beetroot, artichoke, red onion and pepper, with honey peri-peri sauce, salad and cassava fries. All were vastly different, showcasing what Las Iguanas has to offer, but equally divine.
Unfortunately we didn't have any room for dessert but the menu looked varied and we will certainly save room next time.
To top it off, the staff were incredibly friendly, in particular our waitress Clare, and the service excellent.
If we've tempted you to sample this new restaurant, why not take advantage of this exclusive offer for all our readers. Purchase a main meal and receive a Caipirinha or non-alcoholic cooler.
