If you want the best of both worlds in terms of city life and peace and quiet, then Chelmsford is a fantastic location. With the bustling centre of Chelmsford being home to the likes of John Lewis, The White Company and Jack Wills plus local restaurants, pubs and bars there's plenty to see and do.

From Chelmsford train station, you can be at London Liverpool Street within 34 minutes but at the same time, there are multiple dog walks and more rural villages on the outskirts of Chelmsford if you're looking to retreat!

Historical places to visit and country walks

Hylands Estate

Hylands Estate is a wonderful day out for all the family, from visiting the house to taking a walk through the gardens and attending the many events which usually take place there. Grab a coffee from the cafe, take the dog and enjoy a weekend walk!

Ingatestone Hall

Just a short drive to the periphery of Chelmsford is the sought after village of Ingatestone and within it, Ingatestone Hall. They offer outdoor events in the summer, plus walks and the possibility of hiring the hall for weddings and events.

Chelmsford Cathedral

In the heart of the city centre is Chelmsford Cathedral. It is open daily for worship, prayer or simply to look around. There are also many exhibitions and events held there throughout the year.

RHS Garden Hyde Hall

Set in the rural surroundings of Chelmsford, RHS Garden Hyde Hall is a truly tranquil setting. With stunning views of the surrounding countryside, plus the Dry Garden with a range of drought resistant plants and the Hilltop Garden with its rose beds and floral borders, it's a beautiful and relaxing day out.

Schools

There's a wide range of primary and secondary schools throughout the city:

A comment from our Chelmsford Senior Manager, James Westbrook:

"Chelmsford presents the best of both worlds. It is close enough to London to be a commuter haven, and yet set within beautiful countryside and a stones throw from the coast. The marketplace in Chelmsford is always buoyant and homeowners are always able to secure good prices for their homes. Since lockdown 1.0 the property market with the country and especially in Chelmsford has hit a new time high with some areas with the city seeing 30-thousand-pound uplifts from the year before. In recent weeks and the rumour of a stamp duty extension, Rightmove have reported their busiest days for activity since they launched, naturally this has filtered through to a lot of keen buyers registering and wanting to get out to see as many homes as they can. This has created a strong market within the city for those looking to sell in the near future."
